About Us

Vashon Primary School (VPS) is a local/National Private not for profit (PNFP)-community based Primary school in Uganda, with the aim of providing holistic quality education following the local curriculum by the Ministry of Education and Sports. It is located in Buwate, Kira Division, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District in Central Uganda.

In July 2011, the Director/Founder (Mr. Henry Tumwebaze-3rd left) got the opportunity to visit Vashon Island in Seattle Washington State the home of his former project Donor- Linda and the late Ed Swan who hosted him at their Vashon home who challenged him on the next move/plans in terms of supporting communities back in Uganda. Mr. Tumwebaze admired the area/island of hardworking elites, creative and hospitable/entertaining people, planned settlements, clean roads, well conserved natural environment and good education institution and was challenged/inspired to return and build such “similar Vashon community in Uganda”.

“Vashon is a census-designated place (CDP) in King County, Washington, United States. It covers an island alternately called Vashon Island or Vashon–Maury”.

On return Mr. Tumwebaze mobilized his family and resources as well and chose to establish a community primary school and “name it VASHON PRIMARY SCHOOL

The school opened gates for parents and pupils’ admission on Monday 6th February 2012. Today in 2023 we pride ourselves that vashon primary school serves over 300 pupils/students from Buwaate, Najjera, Kungu and surrounding areas. The school serves both kindergarten and primary school from 3 years and above.
